No Charging Output

Before assuming the transformer itself has failed, we inspect the surrounding circuitry because rectifiers, protection devices, connectors or excessive secondary load can cause similar symptoms.

Rectifier and Diode Repairs

Rectifier components convert the transformer's AC output into the DC supply used by the caravan electrical system and leisure battery.

Failed diodes or bridge rectifiers can cause low charging voltage, blown fuses, overheating, excessive ripple or complete loss of output.

Where suitable replacement parts are available, failed rectifier components can be replaced and the charger tested after repair.

Blown Fuse or Short Circuit Faults

A fuse that repeatedly blows usually indicates an underlying electrical problem. Possible causes include failed rectifiers, shorted power components, damaged wiring or faults elsewhere in the power supply circuitry.

Repeatedly replacing the fuse without locating the cause can result in further damage. A charger that continues to blow fuses should be inspected before further power is applied.

Overheating and Burnt Components

Caravan chargers can operate for extended periods and may experience heat-related deterioration over time.

Burnt resistors, discoloured circuit boards, damaged connectors, cracked solder joints and failed power components can all contribute to charging faults.

Where practical, damaged components and affected circuit board areas are repaired before the unit is electrically tested.
